Experience
After graduating from my master's program, I started my career at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, TX where I originated and implemented a psychosocial component in the Emergency Department. After five years serving hospital patients, I moved to Greensboro, NC in order to start my doctoral studies at UNC-Greensboro (UNCG). During my doctoral program, I completed internships in the substance abuse treatment program at High Point Behavioral Health. After earning my doctoral degree, I elected to remain at UNCG and serve as the first Staff Counselor and Outreach Coordinator in the Counseling & Testing Center. During my time at UNCG, I also served as an instructor and internship supervisor in the Department of Counseling & Educational Development. In 2002, I opened my private practice, Von Steen Counseling & Consulting, PC., where I have served adolescents, adults, couples, families, and led groups.
